Vascular Treatment

What are Thread Veins?

Thread veins are extremely common and sometimes embarrassing, mostly affecting the face, body and legs. The causes of thread veins are unknown although they may be caused by changes in temperature, smoking, hormonal changes, alcohol and prolonged standing as well as being a possible inherited condition. At Resolve, we offer state of the the art laser technology to combat thread veins.

Which types of veins can be treated?

Most red skin lesions including rosacea, spider naevi, port wine stains are treated with Intense pulse light. Lasers and IPL can be used to remove thread veins on the face, body and legs.

How many treatments are needed?

Laser treatments will remove fine and large thread veins quickly and effectively, one to five sessions is usually all that is needed to leave your skin feeling smooth and blemish-free. This is a non invasive treatment for veins 1-3 mm in size. Repeat treatments are spaced every 4 to 6 weeks.

What are Stretch Marks?

Stretch Marks can appear anywhere on the body where the skin has been stretched, and they often occur as a result of weight gain.

They are most likely to appear in places where fat is stored, including the abdomen, breasts, upper arms, thighs and buttocks. They pose absolutely no health risk and don't compromise your body's ability to function healthily.

We have three layers of skin: the epidermis (outer layer), the dermis (middle layer), and the subcutaneous stratum (innermost layer).Stretch marks occur in the dermis, the resilient middle layer that helps the skin retain its shape. When the dermis is constantly stretched over time, the skin becomes less elastic and the small connective fibres within it break. The result is what we know as stretch marks. This damage is well beneath the top layers of skin and no creams will ever be able to repair the damage.

Pregnant women aren't alone in being susceptible. Adolescents experiencing growth spurts and athletes - especially bodybuilders who practise strenuous and repetitive exercise - are likely to get stretch marks, as is anyone who gains or loses a significant amount of weight in a short period of time. Use of products containing harsh ingredients, such as lightening creams will damage the skin and result in stretch marks.

What types of Stretch Marks can be treated?

Stretch marks that are red or purple in colour can be successfully faded away. This will help resolve the red or darker pigmentation associated with the stretch mark, however it will not completely elliminate the stretch mark. Unfortunately, there is no "cure" for stretch marks. There is no cream, no treatment, no laser that will make them disappear, and this includes IPL treatments.

Studies have also shown that the appearance of stretch marks can continue to improve for at least six months after the initial laser treatment was given.

Red, Vascular Scars can also be treated in the same way as the stretch marks!

How does the treatment work?

This non-invasive, gentle approach uses targeted flashes of light to treat dilated and broken blood vessels without injuring the surrounding healthy skin. The laser light travels through the skin and is absored by the blood within these vessels. The resulting heat coagulates or clots the blood and destroys the function or the vessel.

Over time, the vessel is absorbed by the body and disappears from sight. The IPL Laser stimulates the production of fresh young skin cells and collagen, promoting new collagen growth, resulting in smooth healthier skin and a white faded stretch mark.

How many treatments are needed?

Practitioners determine an IPL treatment plan for each patient, taking into account the number and severity of skin conditions being addressed. On average, a series of 3 to 5 treatments is recommended, scheduled at 3-4 week intervals. By dividing the full program into several sessions, IPL treatments provide gradual, natural improvement with excellent long term results.

How do I prepare for a treatment?

Patients should avoid tanning on the treatment area roughly one month ahead of treatment to avoid excessive light absorption in the skin. Immediately after the treatment the skin is particularly sensitive to UV light and strong sunlight should be avoided for at least 2 weeks. High factor sun lotions can be used.

Rosacea Removal

What is Rosacea?

It may begin as a tendancy to flush or blush easily and progress to persistent redness in the centre of the face that may gradually involve the cheeks, forehead, chin and nose. It may also involve the ears, chest and back.

Some people experience facial redness, inflammation, burning or warm tingly sensations. As the disease progresses, small blood vessels and tiny pimples begin to appear on or around the reddened area; however, unlike acne, there are no blackheads. Some patients suffer from inflamed pustules or spots.

Rosacea is primarily a disorder of the facial blood vessels that undergo changes and become hyper-responsive to internal and external triggers such as sun exposure, heat, rich foods, caffeine and alcohol.

How can Rosacea be treated?

Traditional treatments for Rosacea include topical and oral anti-inflamatory and antibiotic medications.

At the Resolve Clinic we can treat Rosacea using the Laser. The vascular structures which are responsible for causing Rosacea respond to the light that is emitted via the laser. The laser light travels through the skin and is absorbed by the blood within these vessels. The resulting heat coagulates or clots the blood and destroys the function or the vessel. Over time, the vessel is absorbed by the body and disappears from sight. The leads to reduction of the redness and flushing appearance of facial skin.

How long do treatments take?

Treatment takes approx 15 to 30 minutes and is typically performed at six weekly intervals. Clients may require several initial treatments and then return annually for treatment of new blood vessels. Our team of highly trained professionals will create a skin rejuvenation program for you.

The procedure is non-invasive and pain free. Many people describe the procedure as a flick of an elastic band.

What skin types can be treated?

All skin types can be treated with the IPL machine except black skin type. For this skin type a natural skin peel maybe recommended for skin rejuvenation. Please enquire for more details.

Why do I need a Test Patch?

This is to check your skin suitability and to ensure there are no adverse reactions to the treatment. A period of 2 - 5 days must be left between this and commencement of treatment.
